TIGERS BE STILL is a comedy that follows the misadventures of Sherry Wickman, a young woman who has recently earned her masters degree in art therapy only to find herself moving back home with her family, sending out countless résumés and waiting for the job offer that never comes. Unemployed and overwhelmed, Sherry retreats to her childhood bed and remains there until an unexpected employment opportunity gives her a renewed sense of purpose and hope. Now if only her mother would come downstairs, her sister would get off the couch, her very first therapy patient would do just one of his take-home assignments, her new boss would leave his gun at home, and someone would catch the tiger that escaped from the local zoo, everything would be just perfect.
Five young women depart Belfast during the Irish Famine with the hope of a better life in their hearts. Set aboard the Inchinnan, a ship sails in 1850 from famine-stricken Ireland bound for Australia under a British government scheme to purportedly help “orphan” girls find a better life. En route, these strong and high-spirited women discover that they have been conveniently gotten rid of. Together, they must confront the demons of the life they’ve left behind, survive the endless voyage and take strength in each other to face what lies ahead. Based on true accounts, it is a play about emigration and the female experience of the Famine, and of the powers-that-be that scapegoat and victimize their most vulnerable during a crisis. More here

PQ Monthly Review
August 4th, 2015
"Play‘s most successful sequences involve those from Flan’s creation...Rosalind’s progression from social outcast to child actress to druggie starlet compels. Groben communicates both the wide-eyed innocence of youth and dead-eyed allure of glamour with magnetic aplomb."
Play received a great review from Bob Hicks at Oregon Arts Watch. For full review click here.

We start tech tomorrow! Here's a little about the play from the Oregonian: "The Oregon Children's Theatre production distills the Ramona books into a tale about a middle-class Portland family in transition: Dad has lost his job and decides to pursue a different career, while Ramona finds that school becomes a lot more challenging once you enter third grade. She and older sister Beezus learn important lessons about challenges, conflicts, emotions and relying on one another."
My next project (after Ramona Quimby) now has a website! Check it out! Playtheplay.com
Celebrating Ramona Quimby
April 13th, 2015
This is a post from Oregon Children's Theatre via Facebook:
Yesterday was Beverly Cleary's 99th birthday! You will be hard pressed to find anyone who has not read her books as a kid and related to her characters—Henry Huggins, Ribsy, Ralph the motorcycle mouse, and of course, Ramona Quimby.
We're especially lucky because she's a native Oregonian who grew up in Portland, where she set her Ramona stories. Join us as we bring her characters to life next month onstage with Ramona Quimby! Buy your tickets here: www.octc.org.
